Tragedy of Commons

The Tragedy of Commons is economic concept that talks about the depletion of shared common resources
by acting selfishly instead of thinking about the greater good as a whole.
Now this can be applied to many aspects of life, but some of the most common shared resources are
food supplies, land, and water. These things may seem like general topics and its true that they
are, but they are among the most used daily.

Lets take food for example, think about how much food an average person consumes every day. Then think
about how much food we buy at the store every week.Factor in how many times we go out to eat. With all
those numbers we can start to see that some food is going to be wasted there. How much depends on the
individual or family, but no matter how small that number gets multiplied exponentially because its not
just one person or family wasting food. Its a whole world of people throwing away food. Everyone knows
there are starving kids in Africa as well as somewhere in your local community. All that food that
you waste or that everyone else wastes could have been used to feed them, but we selfishly bought too
much and didn't eat it so we just threw it away.

The first thing we think about wasting isnt land, but you would be surprised. So many companies buy up
land just because they think it will be profitable one day and just sit on it for years. This land could
be used for so many things from new housing to a school. They only think about lining their pockets and
not what is best for the people that want something on that land. Along with that, some housing, like that
in Arizona, is spread out wide and far. This seems like a nice thing because we arent too close to our
neighbors that we can hear them through the walls, but its such a waste of land. Build up and having
multilevel-ed housing is very economical, but it does come with costs.

Water is the most precious resource we as humans have. It is renewable, but that takes time and it is
becoming harder and harder to keep water in the areas needed. Think about all the water we waste everyday.
We run dishwashers, washing machines, take showers, wash dishes, water the lawn and wash our cars. That
is a lot of water to be just throwing away. Those of us in the desert should be more appreciative of the
amount of water we actually have, but we seem to waste water even more just because we can. Taking long
showers or taking forever to brush our teeth. Water is so important to survival and we treat it like it
comes from a bottomless well filled with fresh water.

There are so many more examples of ways that we as people, society and a world waste our precious resources
out of selfish tendencies. If we want even a small amount of the life we have now, we have to start thinking
ahead. If we continue on this path of needless wasting, then we may run out of these resources that we
have grown so attached to. If it helps, think about what life would be like without clean water, gas to run
our cars, or enough food to make it through the week. We are the only ones that can act and we have to act fast,
or there will be nothing left to waste besides time.

Population

In more recent times the population has spiked dramatically and this has caused great concern for the future of our planet. Questions arise, such as are we going to be able to sustain the volume of people living in the world with the limited resources we have and what are we going to do if we cant. These are scary thoughts if you arent prepared for the answers. Due to modern science people are living much longer than in the past which is adding to the ever increasing population. Most people dont want to die, but thats a natural part of life which is vital to our survival. Along with that, we as people of this planet need to slow down our re-population rate because that is the scariest part. All these small children being born at ever increasing rates is raising population numbers at record speeds. Life is important to everyone, but if we keep populating at the rates we are going then the result will be devastating. At first it would be a slow loss of our finite resources and then just a drop as demands increase and the availability dwindles.

We must all takes steps to help preserve our planet and its resources from ourselves. We are the single most destroyers of this planet in every way, but we also have the ability to save it if we take the appropriate steps. One of the big things that we need to change is controlling new borns, thats not to say that we need to stop having children but be more conscious and careful. We can also change our consumption habits as well, such as what we eat and what we choose to buy. With a little help and the right attitudes we can all change for the better and help preserve our resources for future generations so that they can prosper on this planet just as we have.

Human Adaptations

There is are children that live in South East Asia, the Moken, that are able to see better underwater. They are able to see better underwater than European children and probably most other children around the world. This is a wonderful adaptation because these "children dive for clams and sea cucumbers" which is what they must do for their community (ABCScience). This is one of the more remarkable adaptations that humans have developed because its not changing anything about humans, which could occur in mutations. This is simply the need to change with the environment and adapt, which the Moken people have done. Along with the ability to see better underwater, these children spend most of their time in the water so they are able to move through the water with ease. One source I found said that "they looked a bit like a school of little fish swimming around" because of their ease in the water (ABCScience). Studies were done with these children to find out the extent of their ability to see underwater and how it was actually possible. Scientists found that these Moken children didnt have any special or acute sight while on land, but in the water they did. In the water, they are able to control their pupil dilation to have it close to the smallest a humans pupil will go. Along with the pupil control, they are able to change the shape of their lens shape so they are able to see underwater. These children are able to use the muscles in their eyes to utilize the full potential of the human eye. Those doing the study had the children look at black and white photos of shapes and then try to match them out of the water. Almost every time they were able to get them right. There is nothing that they are doing that isnt natural, its just that they have learned to control their muscles to adapt to their living needs. It would be possible for others to be able to see as these children do, but it would be difficult. One would have to start at an early age and learn like anything else in life.
Im sure that these adaptations benefit the Moken people becasue they are able to make a living off the water, as many people in that area do. This adaptation just gives the Moken people a better to survive and prosper. In South East Asia, most of the area is close to the water so the Moken people may not be the only people that have adapted to their surroundings. Although they may not be the only ones, this adaptation does give them an advantage over other people that make their living the same way. These adaptations can mean the difference between groups of people surviving and others falling by the wayside. Now a days, that shouldnt be the case, but if these were times when the only way to live was to beat the other group at finding a food source and obtaining it, it might be a different story. Adaptations throughout history have allowed humans to better their situations in life as well as make their lives easier.

One Too Many Drinks

A mouthful of dirt and a foul smell in the air.
Awaking under the hot sun, the only other awake is the dog,
He keeps at bay. His nose vacuums,
That wretched odor escaping from your pants lingers.
Quickly checking your belonging you discover it,
A warm reminder of that bottle broken beneath
The friend, shirtless and snoring, lying next to the cooler.
Each step, wide legged and slow. No bathroom
Will be able to save you now.

The 11th Hour

Although the movie is a little dated, I still believe that the message that it was trying to convey was very relevant and thoroughly thought out to convince the people of this planet that changes need to be made. We are living on borrowed time because we as humans are increasingly destroying the habitable nature of the planet through our constant need to progress and the throw away culture we have adopted. There are many factors by which this is happening, some of which include; global warming, deforestation, soil erosion, and over population. Many of these problems are directly caused or sped up by human activities, but they can be reduced to a point that there may be a chance to stop or even reverse the effects which could end life as we know it.

Many of the scientists talked about all of these major problems and how they could be affecting the planet as a whole. They went on to state things like the increased temperatures of the planet and even natural disasters could be a result of how we as humans have affected the planet. The rising temperature may not seem very significant, but a rise in one or two degree Fahrenheit of the global climate could be catastrophic and cause massive heat waves or the next ice age. These scientists also discussed the increase in power of natural disasters such as the one in New Orleans with Hurricane Katrina and how a storm such as this could become increasingly normal. Though these two examples and many others can be a result of nature fighting back or a result of something humans may have helped along, they don't only affect humans exclusively, they affect every living thing on this planet.

There are solutions out there to help build a more sustainable future so that we as a species don't go extinct at such a young age. We as a whole planet wide population need to realize the damage we are doing and work towards ways to better our situation, because otherwise its only a short matter of time before we don't have any time. This isnt to say that we drop all of our technology and revert back to the stone age, but learn to utilize our technology to work along with the environment instead of against it. Sustainability is the name of the game and we must learn that if we work as a whole to make this a reality then it will never happen. Everyone has a part to play in this and we can all make a difference.

here we go again, school

what can i talk about today?
school has started again and its still uneventful so far
hopefully something good happens in the near future
but i dont want to get into any more trouble than i already have\
in the past and sorta recent past.
looking forward to job hunting i guess, tired of being broke again
it really isnt fun and i dont get to do most of the things i like to do
like go out and hit up the bars with my friends.
Oh and another thing, being that im a little behind in my classes
(im like a junior or something) i feel a little old in my classes
all these kids in my classes are like seniors and not even 21
im over here about to turn 22 and these kids are talking about 19th
birthdays and stuff. i know im not much older but still thats too crazy.
aside from that most of the people in my classes seem like alright people
i just want to be like, lets all go out for drinks and bond or whatever
guess thats out of the question right? haha
well thats enough ranting or whatever you want to call this for one day
ill let you guys get back to your exciting lives and stop worrying about mine

later guys!!

the things you think you deserve

most people take a few things for granted and one of those are friends
i was one of these people because i thought my friends would always be there
ive been proven wrong on this one so many times
all of my friends come and go so i shouldnt be surprised
the worst part about this is that i invest so much time and energy into
these friendships that i have nothing to show for it when they ditch me
friends always say that something changed, its true. they didnt want to hang out
with you anymore but they just dont want to tell you
we all have our reasons for leaving because ive done it as well but it always sucks
looks like i cant keep bitching about it because its just going to just keep
happening and we just have to let it take its course.
just once id like someone to tell me straight up that they dont want to be my friend
i hate when someone keeps giving excuses for not hanging out and it goes on
for months or even years before it finally sinks in.

all i have to say is cherish your friendships because they are short lived, well some,
and you have to enjoy that time with those people.
otherwise we would all just be sulking around everywhere not wanting to interact
with people for fear they will eventually leave you as well.
friends are like food, most of the time theyre good but sooner or later there
wont be any left but it was always worth meal

half of this doesnt make sense but fuck it!!

first time for everything

i recently went to vegas for the first time and it wasnt anything like i expected
i ended up going with my dad and my sister. im 21 but my sister isnt!
really didnt get to do any of the crazy fun stuff everyone usually does in vegas
i did get to walk around a bunch of casinos and drink outside.
it wasnt all bad, played some slots and even won $12
i mean its a koo place to go if you are going with friends that share the same
interests as you, otherwise you will end up getting bored real quick like i did
i guess its not all fair because im not much of a site seer so i dont like to
just walk around and look at all the shit.
at least there were plenty of places to go eat and shit while we were there
now im really looking forward to going back with some friends and actually
doing something really fun in vegas. drinks at the pool, clubbing, see some shows
who knows what it will be like next time, but it cant get any worse!

i guess you really never know right

id say that im surprised but who am i kidding.
it seems like i have lost another group of friends but thats whatever
im not really offended that they dont want to talk to me
the only thing that really pissed me off is that they never told me.
i dont mind if you dont want to hang out with me or whatever, but at least
have the decency to tell me instead of ignoring me.

you know its weird how attached we become to our friends that once they are gone
that we feel lost and have no sense of place. maybe thats just how i feel
right now or maybe thats just how i always feel.
i mean ive lost friends before so its not like the end of the world or anything
the thing that i dislike the most is that ive done it so many times.

seriously like there are so many people i used to hang out with and now its like
i never see them because either they want nothing to do with me or we just dont
get along good enough to be in the same room. this means im alone right now with
the exception of my bestfriend who is always there for me, but we dont see each other
that often so its different. now i have to find a new group of friends that
accept me and want to spend time with me alot. its actually not that hard
but i dont want to be doing this every other year, maybe its my fault or their fault.
whatever, its past so now just to move forward and do something about it.

this is one of the many reasons i hate tucson and really need to move on from this
place. some people love it here, but its not for me and ive known that for some time.
just have to get through school and hopefully i can finally get out of here.

until then, have fun people

much in time

but a day goes by in this retched life
we all see what has become of us and yet not cry
for there is not a thing to be done
haste we show not, for the tidings we sow

love is eternal in its slumber, fear it well
for once it grasps there is no return.
it claws and digs until none is left, but
our true selves to sit and share

these days we may rue, but forget not
the time that has expired and gone
born to die, too timid to live
our fate is drawn, tempt it

Ever really wonder

I know there are such things as lucid dreams and I've had a couple before, but this last one I had was way too surreal.
I don't want to give you the whole story because I'd like to keep that for me.
However I can give you guys a little taste cause I don't want to be a jerk.

So you know how most people have a girl of their dreams, well in my dream I actually meet the girl in my dreams.
It was amazing, one of the best experiences ever and it felt as real as waking life.
One of those most bizarre things about dreams is that they feel so real yet they are so different than
Anything we experience in waking life because of how we perceive things.
Time doesn't matter in these situations so many years, seconds, days, whatever can pass in your dream and you are non the wiser.
The meaning of our dreams is only for us to interpret so giving you details wouldn't help you guys.

Well I hope I can see her again one day in my dreams or even better in waking life! One can only dream.

Who knows

Alright so far this semester of school has been pretty good to me, let's just hope it lasts.
Been doing good in school our at last I think I am haha
Have some good friends and shit has been looking up, still haven't found a new job but that's on me.
Been too lazy to go out and look for a new one, but I will get one soon cause I miss having money that's mine.
Love being 21 cause it's awesome. Going out to bars and not worrying about getting caught drinking underage, it's the best feeling in the world.
I missed being on an actual campus because pima it's nothing compared to a university. There's girls every where all the time!
I'm just glad that I was able to get my life back together after all the stuff I had been through. It's been tough but I did it.
Shout out to my bestfriend Vanesa cause she is the best, she may claim I help her more than she helps me but that's a lie.
She doors so much for me and is always looking out for me no matter what:)
idk what else to tell you guys other than this is starting to look like my life is getting into a good place and I like it.
I'm always talking about the next big thing I'm going to do, but the only thing left to do is just to keep on living.
Nothing is going to get in my way or slow me down, I just have to take everything one step at a time and try not to fuck everything up again!

Oh well, see you ladies later cause I have class and then it's whatever happens after that.
Until next time, keep  praising me as your fearless leader ;)
